Thor 2 Trailer

Thor 2 Trailer Released Online [Video]

The Thor 2 trailer debuted online Tuesday. Thor: The Dark World is part of the Thor and Loki franchise of Marvel comics-based movies that continue a story left off after 2012′s The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon. The new film will arrive in US theaters on November 8.

Chris Hemsworth returns in the starring role of Thor, crown prince of Asgard and hammer-wielding superhero. He was inspired by the Norse god of the same name.

Game of Thrones alum Alan Taylor directs. In Thor 2, the dramatically coiffed superhero is reunited with love interest Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman. They return to Thor’s home world only to discover a new enemy.

According to the studio, Thor: The Dark World continues the epic tradition of the previous films, as Thor “battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself… Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.”

Thor 2 is part of Marvel’s “Phase two” series of follow-up films that also includes The Avengers 2 and Iron Man 3, among several others.

In addition to Portman and Hemsworth, most of the original Thor cast will also return for the sequel, including Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Stevenson, Jaimie Alexander, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, and Kat Dennings.

Christopher Eccleston will play arch-villain Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the dark elves of Svartalfheim. Iron is Malekith’s kryptonite, and he may experience a special-effects heavy allergic reaction to the metal in the course of the story.

Yes, Loki is back. Like the original Norse god who inspired him, he is apt to appear as an agent of chaos rather than an unalloyed asset for Asgard.

What do you think of the Thor 2 trailer?

Allan Arbus

Allan Arbus, Psychiatrist With Zingers on ‘M*A*S*H,’ Dies at 95

Allan Arbus, who left the successful fashion photography business he and his wife, Diane, built to become an actor, most memorably playing the caustic psychiatrist Maj. Sidney Freedman on the hit television series “M*A*S*H,” died on Friday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 95.

Amy Arbus, his daughter, confirmed his death.

Mr. Arbus appeared in films like “Coffy” and “Crossroads” and was a TV regular during the 1970s and ’80s, appearing on “Taxi,” “Starsky & Hutch,” “Matlock” and other shows.

But his best-known role was Major Freedman, the liberal psychiatrist who appeared in a dozen episodes of “M*A*S*H.” He treated wounds of the psyche much as Capt. Hawkeye Pierce treated surgery patients: with a never-ending string of zingers.

Alan Alda, who played Hawkeye, recalled Mr. Arbus as a very believable therapist.

“I was so convinced that he was a psychiatrist I used to sit and talk with him between scenes,” Mr. Alda said in an interview with the Archive of American Television. “After a couple months of that I noticed he was giving me these strange looks, like ‘How would I know the answer to that?’ ”

Allan Franklin Arbus was born in New York City on Feb. 15, 1918. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School and entered City College at 15. He left college a year and a half later for a job at Russek’s Department Store, where he met Diane Nemerov, the daughter of the store’s owners.

They married in 1941 and became passionate about photography. They shot fashion photographs for Russek’s before Mr. Arbus left to serve as a photographer in the Army Signal Corps in Burma during World War II. When he was discharged in 1946 the Arbuses established a studio on West 54th Street for fashion photography and soon won a contract from Condé Nast to supply photos for magazines like Glamour and Vogue.

In 1956, Ms. Arbus dissolved their business partnership to work full time on her haunting shots of marginalized people. Mr. Arbus continued to work in fashion photography but also took up acting.

The Arbuses separated in 1959 and divorced in 1969, when Mr. Arbus moved to Los Angeles. Ms. Arbus committed suicide in 1971. In 1976, Mr. Arbus married Mariclare Costello. She survives him, as do his two daughters from his first marriage, Amy and Doon; and a daughter from his second marriage, Arin Arbus.

Mr. Arbus’s last television role was on the HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in 2000.

NCIS

NCIS: Los Angeles Review: They Grow Up So Fast

The faked death of cartel leader Miquel Barbosa wasn't too much of a surprise... but I never saw Kensi and Deeks' plan with Javier coming. Well done, writers.

It's storytelling twists like that which make an otherwise routine procedural hour of television a joy to watch. When Javier ran away from the NCIS vehicle, I wrote in my notes, "What the heck was he thinking?" Even though he loved Barbosa like a father, I couldn't imagine that he would risk his life to go back to him.

I was wrong, because Javier did risk his life to see Barbosa again. Though, it wasn't for a family reunion, but to turn on the resurrected leader and lead NCIS right to him. Initially, Javier didn't have any reason to withhold information from NCIS. His father figure was presumed dead. Through Javier's story about the song, "Resurrection," the team realized that Barbosa wasn't really dead.

That's when Javier had to decide whether to risk his own life to bring down his replacement father or let NCIS come up with a different plan. When Kensi and Deeks were transporting Javier to "Witness Protection," I bought the story. I also didn't catch on that the garbage truck attack was a set up. It definitely seemed real enough with bullets flying every which way. And, Kensi sold it by yelling after Javier to not run away. But, it was all a set-up to get Javier back in with Barbosa's cartel.

When the hidden camera on Javier and the fake ambush were revealed, it got serious. Javier was no longer responsible for his own life and decision, that responsibility fell to Kensi and Deeks. Would they be able to protect him? It was a close call, but in the end they were. Callen's impersonation of killed DEA Special Agent John Ness provided the distraction needed to save Javier.

Even though Barbosa took Javier as a hostage and threatened his life, there was a moment when it wasn't clear which side the young man would choose. Javier loved Barbosa, but he ended up chosing his own life and dreams. He could have gone into Witness Protection, but then he would have had to give up his life as a singer and songwriter. Instead, he decided to bring down Barbosa, so he could continue his life without fear.
In a touching moment after Barbosa was killed, Javier reached out to Kensi for comfort. The usually stoic Kensi showed her compassion and reassured him by saying, "Javier, you did good. You did good." In that moment, Kensi overcame her fear of connection as a proud Deeks looked on.

After initially refusing to help Sam out by babysitting his kids, Kensi agreed to do it after her experience with Javier. Though, she had one condition, which was that Sam had to let Deeks babysit too. I've continually disliked the idea of Kensi and Deeks becoming romantic, but for the first time, my heart felt for them when they talked about playing house. I fear I'm softening to the idea of them together.

They are such good partners and friends that I'd hate to see them ruin that by hooking up. At the same time, they are growing as individuals together, which could lead them to the perfect personal partnership. I'm still not there, but it's becoming more clear that perhaps they really are meant for each other. Maybe....

AAPL

Apple Now Has The Same Credit Rating As The US Government (AAPL)

Apple today announced that it would be issuing bonds in order to pay for its new shareholder dividend and share buyback program.
Credit rating agency Standard & Poors gave the new Apple bonds a 'AA+' rating, outlook stable.
That's the same rating S&P has on U.S. government debt, which it downgraded from AAA in July 2011.
Right now, there are only four AAA rated companies in the United States: Johnson & Johnson, ADP, Exxon Mobil, and Microsoft.
In other words, not a bad first foray into the credit markets for Apple.

APPLE TO GIVE AWAY $100 BILLION TO SHAREHOLDERS
Responding to popular demand, Apple is massively boosting its buyback and dividend.
Here are the key bullet points:
It will now use $100 billion worth of cash, an increase of $55 billion from previously announced plans.
The dividend will be increased 15%.
Dividends are now $3.05 per share.
The company also says it plans to borrow money as part of cash return plan.

Apple® today announced that its Board of Directors has authorized a significant increase to the Company’s program to return capital to shareholders. The Company expects to utilize a total of $100 billion of cash under the expanded program by the end of calendar 2015. This represents a $55 billion increase to the program announced last year and translates to an average rate of $30 billion per year from the time of the first dividend payment in August 2012 through December 2015.
As part of this program, the Board has increased its share repurchase authorization to $60 billion from the $10 billion level announced last year. This is the largest single share repurchase authorization in history and is expected to be executed by the end of calendar 2015. Apple also expects to utilize about $1 billion annually to net-share-settle vesting restricted stock units.
Additionally, the Board has approved a 15% increase in the Company’s quarterly dividend and today has declared a dividend of $3.05 per common share, payable on May 16, 2013 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on May 13, 2013. “We are very fortunate to be in a position to more than double the size of the capital return program we announced last year,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We believe so strongly that repurchasing our shares represents an attractive use of our capital that we have dedicated the vast majority of the increase in our capital return program to share repurchases.”
“We will continue to return capital to shareholders through dividends, share repurchases, and cash used to net-share-settle vesting RSUs,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “We continue to generate cash in excess of our needs to operate the business, invest in our future, and maintain flexibility to take advantage of strategic opportunities.”

After Earth

'After Earth' Film's Stars Will & Jaden Smith Imagine Our Planet's Future

In the upcoming science fiction film "After Earth", our home planet goes through some serious changes over the next 1,000 years. So it's fitting that the film's stars,  actor Will Smith and his son Jaden, would take some time to envision what the future of Earth might entail.

In a Google+ Hangout today (April 23), the stars of "After Earth " joined SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, futurist Ray Kurzweil, Alexandra Cousteau and a group of students to discuss what the planet Earth might just look like in the next millennium. The event, sponsored by Columbia Pictures, was billed as "After Earth Day" and came one day after the annual day to celebrate the Earth.

"It looks like great entertainment, but it raises some profound issues [about the future of the planet]," said Kurzweil, the director of engineering for Google and moderator of the discussion said of the movie.

"After Earth" explores the relationship between a father and son — played by Will and Jaden Smith — after they crash-land on Earth 1,000 years into the future, after humans have deserted the planet to live in space. A "cataclysmic" event forced all humans to leave Earth, leaving the planet to be overrun by other, unfriendly species, according to a movie description released by Columbia Pictures. The film — directed and co-written by M. Night Shyamalan — launches into theaters in June.

"With this film it was such a perfect collision of art entertainment, education and a posing of fantastic questions," Will Smith said during hangout. "As an artist, this film does exactly what I always dreamed to be able to do with entertain and to also be able to pose interesting questions."

Smith went on to explain that shooting the movie helped him and his son start to understand how human activity influences the planet.

"I feel like I really saw some true beauty in the world after shooting in Costa Rica," said Jaden Smith. "After that experience, it really showed me how important it is to save the world."

Alexandra Cousteau, a filmmaker and granddaughter of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, also expressed her concern for the planet. She explained that the Earth today is in a vulnerable position, but by using technology and enthusiasm, a new generation can start to change the Earth for the better.

Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of the private spaceflight company SpaceX and chief of the Tesla electric car company,  said he thinks that these issues could be motivation for humanity to start moving away from Earth and into space.

"I think we want to be a space-faring civilization," Musk said during the event. "Either we're a space-faring civilization or we're going to be bound to the Earth until some kind of extinction event [occurs]."

To Musk, the idea that humanity can leave the Earth to create a new human life elsewhere in the universe is "inspiring" and "exciting."

Other panelists were more interested in finding new and different ways to help combat the effects of global climate change.

"I have faith in our generation," one of the eighth graders said. "I think that we can help this earth. I'm sure we can [find a way to] not waste this planet and go to a different planet. I'm optimistic that we can save this planet and do the right things."

"After Earth" is set for release nationwide on June 7.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Five reasons why Gwyneth Paltrow is not the most beautiful woman in the world

Flaxen-haired Gwyneth Paltrow was named People Magazine’s “World’s Most Beautiful Woman” yesterday, a confounding move just one week after she was named Star magazine’s “Most Hated Celebrity.”
We assume that People awarded her the honor based on her many accomplishments as well as her looks, and with that in mind, we take this opportunity to say, “No thanks!” Here are some reasons why the occasional actress, self-appointed Internet lifestyle guru, and food-hating cookbook authoress (who once proclaimed she would “rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can”) is most certainly not the fairest of them all.

1. The WASP-y look is not for everyone.
Blond hair, a tan, rail-thin body — will we ever get a break from the Hamptons Barbie look for our beauty ideal?

2. She’s a cookbook author — yet terrified of food.
Despite being a two-time cookbook authoress, Gwyneth’s fear of the unhealthy borders on pathological. Carbs are evil, wheat is worse and meat is “dirty.” (Leonardo DiCaprio told her so, and she hasn’t eaten it in 20 years.) And she’s not afraid of making herself — or her family — go hungry in order to achieve her “clean eating” whims.
“Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains like white rice, we’re left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs,” she writes in her new tome, “It’s All Good.” It doesn’t sound good.

3. Her head is full of GOOP.
Her lifestyle and health-oriented website and newsletter has become a long-running joke in the blogosphere for its earnestly out-of-touch — and laughably expensive — collection of life-enhancing recommendations for us commoners, based on Gwyn’s favorite things: detoxes, colon cleanses, rapturous odes to spinach, Turkish towels, a $795 Valentino studded leather iPad case. It’s like seeing inside her head, and it’s strange in there.

4. She’s obsessed with being thin.
In addition to her super-restrictive diet, we’ve heard about her punishing, five-day-a-week, two hours-a-day exercise regimen with celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson ad nauseum. “Sometimes I cry, like, “I can’t do this anymore! I’m so sick of it!” she told People.
Ease up, lady. You’ll still look good if you gain 10 pounds.

5. She really wants you to like her
The self-deprecating act gets old. “When I first heard that I was going to be on the cover of People’s “Most Beautiful” issue, I honestly thought someone was playing a joke on me,” the frequent red carpet walker said in a behind-the-scenes video on People’s website. Oh, really?
And check out the one carefully calibrated vice that she wants us to know about: “My one light American Spirit that I smoke once a week, on Saturday night,” she has said. Nice try, but she’s so uptight that she’d have to blaze through half a pack of Lucky Strikes and down three scotches before we’d risk hanging out with her.

Administrative Professionals Day

Administrative Professionals Day 2013: Holiday for Bosses to Show Thanks to Employees

Administrative Professionals Day 2013: A holiday that encourages bosses to show gratitude to their staff.

Secretaries, administrative assistants, and employees in other similar employees have been honored by a holiday started in 1952.

Department of Labor statistics show that 8.9 million Americans work in administrative roles.

E-card website 123Greetings.com is an option for bosses to show their thanks.

“We suggest everyone to send at least an ecard to all secretaries, admin assistants or office managers they know,” said Arvind Kajaria, founder of the website, according to PR Web. “The ecards are free, so there’s no reason not to. In most cases we feel, it’s just the thought that counts and makes people feel appreciated and respected.”

Officials with another company, FlowerDeliveryExpress.com, is telling bosses to make sure not to forget the week-long holiday.

“Forgetting Administrative Professionals Day is almost as bad as forgetting your wedding anniversary or your best friend’s birthday,” CEO Wesley Berry said, according to Yahoo! ” Loyal and long term assistants are like family and want to be recognized for their efforts.”

An awards ceremony for the holiday that was started in 2009 was held again this year, with Sonya Sowards, executive assistant to the president at Florida TaxWatch, being named the 2013 Administrative Professional of the Year.

The awards ceremony and related trade show was held in Tallahassee.

Business owner and former administrator Christy Crump, who started the awards, said that they honor clerical office staff that are unsung heroes. The career path is a cross country race, not a marathon, according to Crump.

“It’s not a few hundred yards, it’s not even a couple of miles or 5 miles or even 30 miles,” she told Tallahassee.com. “Sometimes it’s 30 years out to get to that finish line.”

Real Madrid

Highlights and Analysis: Champions League Semifinals, Real Madrid at Borussia Dortmund

Talk of the balance of power in Europe, in geopolitical terms, is usually fraught with history, buzzwords and bad memories.

But talk of the balance of power in soccer on the continent burst front and center on Wednesday after Borussia Dortmund, behind four goals by the Polish international striker Robert Lewandowski, dispatched Real Madrid, 4-1, in the first leg of their semifinal series in the UEFA Champions League.

The victory came 24 hours after the new champions of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich, signaled that Barcelona’s reign as the world’s best team might be coming to an end with its own emphatic win, 4-0, in the first leg of their series.

Now the semifinals switch next week to Spain. Put simply, the two top teams in the Bundesliga have outscored the two top teams in Spain’s La Liga by an eye-popping 8-1 in 180 minutes of play.

The two series certainly are not yet over (see Barcelona’s rally to oust A.C. Milan earlier in the tournament), but it appears likely that the world is close to seeing the first all-German final in the Champions League, at London’s Wembley Stadium on May 25. And get ready for those cringe-worthy headlines from Fleet Street newspapers tomorrow. How could the Brits resist? Here, we’ll refrain.

Dortmund sprang into the lead on a goal by Lewandowski, 24 but Madrid responded before halftime on a goal by Cristiano Ronaldo. From there it was the Lewandowski show as he struck for three goals in the second half to ice the match.

Dortmund, the two-time defending champions in the Bundesliga until it was dethroned this year by Bayern Munich, came into the match on a wave of bad news — its 20-year-old star Mario Götze will soon move to rival Bayern on a $48 million transfer. Now Lewandowski, who had earlier declined to sign a new pact with Dortmund is also reported to be headed to Bavaria for a big payday.

It could happen, it probably will happen. But for one day, at least, German soccer is sitting astride the soccer world, and deservedly so.

Madrid Poleaxed
Yesterday, we saw the emergence of a team, Bayern Munich, that looks set to dominate European football. Today, it was the turn of a single player to seize the moment and announce his position at the pinnacle of the game. That player was Borussia Dortmund’s Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski.

Sure, he’s not exactly an unknown. He’s been touted as a target for most of the big teams in Europe, from Manchester United to Bayern Munich to the team he tormented today, Real Madrid. He’s always scored goals. Bucketloads of them. Both for his club side and for his national team, which can be classed as average at best.

But Dortmund, for all its progress in recent years, is not quite considered among the behemoths of the European game. That makes success at this level something of a double-edged sword. All the glory and prestige of making the latter stages of the Champions League is wonderful and invigorating and impressive and all that jazz – and the team might yet win the tournament, don’t forget – but it does mean that the vultures circle around your best talents. We’ve already seen that, with Mario Götze heading to Bayern. Now, Lewandowski’s four-star performance could ironically sound the beginning of the end of his Dortmund career. I mean, if you thought you liked the look of him before the game today, imagine how you feel now. The flutter of European club football’s fattest chequebooks being opened was almost as loud as the sound inside Borussia’s stadium.

For Dortmund fans, though, the only tranquilizer is to revel in the moment. All four of Lewandowski’s goals typified the work of a master craftsman. His first, an elusive movement behind Pepe to make space to fling a boot at an inswinging cross opened the scoring. Anticipation, check. Intelligence, check. Movement, check. The second, displayed a velvet first touch to turn in the box, just giving him time to toe-punt into the corner of the net. Positioning? Yup. Instinct? You bet. The third was the best of the lot. Just admire the way every single touch is meaningful, the control, the drag back, the clean-as-a-whistle strike into the top corner. Unstoppable. I’m watching this game in a sports bar in central London surrounded by normally staid execs in suits and even here, that goal had the place on its feet, hollering in appreciation. To finish off, the surefooted penalty – a staple in any top striker’s repertoire – that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

I hadn’t expected a repeat of Bayern’s mauling of Barcelona yesterday. I was wrong. Emphatically wrong. It looks like an all-German final after all.

Dortmund completes a two-day, two-game sweep of the two top teams in Germany over the two top teams in Spain with an emphatic 4-1 victory against Real Madrid.

It looks like the balance of soccer power in Europe has just shifted from Spain to Germany as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund now prepare for the return matches next week in Spain, holding emphatic leads ahead of the second-leg matches.

Champions League

Bayern Munich routs Barcelona, 4-0, in first leg of Champions League semifinal

Thomas Mueller scores twice to help the home team hand Barcelona its first four-goal defeat since 2007.

Thomas Mueller scored twice, Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben had one goal each and Bayern Munich routed Barcelona, 4-0, Tuesday night in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal in Munich.

Bayern Munich sent Barcelona to its first four-goal defeat since a 4-0 loss at Getafe in the Copa del Rey semifinals on May 10, 2007. Barcelona, which has won three of the last seven titles, had lost by four goals only once before in the Champions League, 4-0 at Dynamo Kiev in the group stage on Nov. 6, 1997.
